Hytale Update 6: the Mod Browser, Hardcore mode and the key new features
Mod Browser, Hardcore Mode, new Creative Tools, and much more!
On August 27, 2026, Hytale will officially welcome Update 6. And behind that rather modest name lies an update that could well become one of the most important for the future of the game.
Not necessarily because it transforms Orbis with a mountain of new content, but because it tackles something deeper: the way we will play, create and share content in Hytale.
A mod browser built directly into the game, new Hardcore modes, greatly expanded Creative tools, brand-new possibilities for server creators, performance improvements… After several months of pre-release, Update 6 is starting to shape a Hytale where the line between player and creator is becoming increasingly thin.
Here are the key things to know.

Hytale Update 6 launches on August 27
Update 6 has been in pre-release testing since May 28, 2026. Since then, Hypixel Studios has expanded it almost every week, reaching a twelfth part published on August 13. The date is now official: Update 6 will roll out on August 27.
And if you haven’t followed the dozens, or even hundreds, of changes added across these versions, don’t worry.
In the end, the essentials come down to a few big ideas.
Release date: August 27, 2026
Key highlights: Mod Browser, Hardcore mode, new Creative tools, and many improvements for servers and modding
Pre-release: available right now from the launcher settings
For whom? Pretty much everyone: players, builders, modders, and server administrators.
And if you had to start with just one new feature, the choice would be rather obvious.
The Mod Browser completely changes access to mods
Until now, changing your gameplay experience inevitably meant knowing where to look, what to download (CurseForge), and how to install the content.
With Update 6, Hytale is starting to remove that barrier.
The game is getting a mod browser accessible directly from the main menu. There, you can discover featured creations, popular or recently updated mods, browse different categories, or search directly for a mod by name or description.
Each creation then has its own page with a description, screenshots, download count, supported game versions, and, most importantly, a button to install it.
A My Library section finally lets you find already installed mods, update them, or remove them.

At first glance, this might look like a simple quality-of-life improvement.
In reality, it is probably one of the most foundational changes in Update 6.
A mod is no longer something you go looking for outside Hytale before returning to the game. Community creation is starting to become an integral part of the Hytale experience.
And that difference is huge.
The less friction there is between a creator and their audience, the more likely players are to try new experiences. And the easier it is for players to discover community creations, the more reason modders have to make them.
This first Mod Browser is still presented by the Hytale team as an initial version. But its presence in the main menu already sends a fairly clear message about the place the studio wants mods to have in the years ahead.
Hardcore mode wants to put your nerves (and your friendships) to the test
Another major addition: Hytale will officially let you play in Hardcore.
But Hypixel Studios did not settle for the traditional ‘one life, one death, game over.’
Four playable variants are available when creating a world.
Permadeath: one life, no second chance
This is Hardcore in its most classic form.
Each player has a single life. Once you die, it’s over.
Simple, brutal, effective.
Three Strikes: you’re allowed to make a mistake… twice
With Three Strikes, each player has three lives by default.
This gives groups a little more breathing room if they want to feel the pressure of Hardcore without necessarily watching dozens of hours of progress vanish after one unfortunate fall into a ravine.
The number of lives can also be adjusted when creating the world.
Nine Lives: one shared counter for the whole team
This is where things start to get more interesting.
In Nine Lives, all players draw from the same pool of lives.
Your friend, who is particularly talented at falling into lava, dies? One life gone for the whole group.
A second time?
Another one gone.
When the last life is used, the game ends for everyone. The starting number of lives can also be customized.
Soulbound: nobody dies. Really, nobody.
And then there is Soulbound.
The rule fits in one sentence: if a single player dies, the game ends for the entire team.
In other words, the player in your group who always says ‘don’t worry, I’ve got this’ before attempting a questionable jump should quickly become your main source of anxiety.

These variants are interesting because they do more than just change the difficulty.
They can completely transform the dynamics of a group of players.
And in a game as focused on adventure, community servers, and creating experiences as Hytale, it is already easy to imagine the challenges, events, or content series that will emerge around Soulbound and Nine Lives.
Builders will be able to think much, much bigger
If you enjoy building more than dying in Hardcore, Update 6 probably has even more to offer you.
Since the first part of the pre-release, Hypixel Studios has gradually added a set of tools that are starting to make Creative mode feel like a genuine creation workshop.
Block palettes you can finally reuse
The Block Palette Presets now let you save a block palette and reuse it later.
A dedicated editor lets you create palettes, edit them, delete them, or quickly select the colors and blocks being used.
That may sound trivial if your last Creative project was a nine-block hut. 👀
It matters a lot more when you are trying to keep a consistent visual identity across an entire city, a dungeon, or several builds that share the same art direction.
The Color Tool is going to save a huge amount of time
The new Color Tool goes even further.
It offers three main functions: replace the colors and materials of a build, gradually apply a gradient, or generate light and dark shades based on a light source, the orientation of a surface, or a custom palette.
In other words, operations that previously required a huge amount of manual work can now become a natural part of the building process.

Up to 16 million blocks in a selection
And for those who think size matters: building tools can now handle selections of up to 16 million blocks.
Yes. Sixteen million.
Very large builds also benefit from a new, more compact prefab format, while copying, cutting, pasting, and saving large selections have all been significantly accelerated.
This probably will not make you a better architect.
But the game will give you far fewer excuses.
Points, holographic prefabs, and interactive builds
Update 6 also introduces the Point Tool, which can place persistent points in the world that can be named, tagged, copied with prefabs, or used as teleport destinations.
Prefabs can also be previewed as holograms directly in the world before being placed.
And entities with physical collision can now correctly carry or push players. For creators, this opens the door to moving platforms, moving walls, traps, obstacles, and parkour courses that are much more dynamic.
Taken individually, each of these tools adds extra convenience.
Taken together, they mainly show how quickly Hytale’s Creative mode is maturing.
It is no longer just about placing blocks faster: creators are starting to get the building blocks they need to make genuine gameplay experiences.
Server creators are getting new toys too
This is probably the least spectacular part when you skim through the patch notes.
And yet, it could be one of the most important in the long run.
Update 6 greatly expands what can be done with Trigger Volumes, invisible zones capable of triggering rules when a player, an NPC, or an event interacts with them.
A zone can, for example, prevent blocks from being built or destroyed, disable certain interactions, allow flight, modify damage taken, temporarily stop the growth of certain blocks, or apply different persistent rules to those inside it.
Volumes can also react to an entity’s death, count NPCs within an area, spawn new enemies, launch animations, and communicate with one another through signals.
Imagine a dungeon room.
The player enters.
The doors lock.
Several enemies appear.
The game detects the death of the final opponent.
Another zone receives the signal.
The door opens.
All of this is beginning to be buildable directly with the systems provided by Hytale.
Teleports can now send players to another world, while plugin developers have new camera APIs capable of creating cinematic movements or even teleports with predefined camera paths.
Custom bosses, scripted dungeons, mini-games, cinematics, dynamic events, moving platforms…
We are slowly starting to see where Hytale wants to go.
And what is especially interesting is that many of these possibilities are not reserved for the game’s official content. They are designed to become tools for its community.
A special note for modders when moving to Update 6
There is, however, one important point to know if you already develop a plugin or run a custom server.
Several protocol changes introduced during the pre-release require the affected plugins and custom servers to be recompiled against the new version in order to connect correctly.
If you run a Hytale server, it is therefore worth planning a quick compatibility check before August 27.
An update that also does a lot under the hood
Not every new feature in an update shows up in a screenshot.
Update 6 also brings many performance and stability improvements.
World generation has notably been sped up, loading of chunks near the player is better prioritized, and connections to hosted worlds have been improved.
Hypixel Studios has also reworked frame pacing to reduce stuttering and improved the interpolation of other players’ and NPCs’ movement, especially when the framerate or connection becomes less stable.
On dedicated servers, a main world that crashes can now be recovered automatically depending on server configuration, where manual intervention could previously be required.
Finally, the team announces a 2x to 4x improvement in network packet decoding performance, on both the client and server side.
These are changes that are much harder to put into a trailer.
But if Hytale wants to let its community build increasingly ambitious worlds and servers, these are exactly the technical foundations that will matter.
And that’s not all
It is hard to summarize several months of pre-release without leaving a few new features out.
Update 6 also improves color transitions between biomes so that shifts in vegetation and terrain tones are more gradual.
New mage towers, as well as reworked versions of certain landmarks, can be discovered in the Sandstone, Shale, and Volcanic.
Players using a DualSense or Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will be able to enable gyro aiming and move the camera by tilting their controller.
Avatar customization also receives several visual tweaks and new color options, while a new algorithm improves the rendering of multiple overlapping transparent surfaces, such as water and glass.
Even the settings now have their own search system.
And we will spare you the very, very many fixes included across the twelve parts of the changelog.
You can thank us later.
Update 6 is mainly preparing the Hytale of tomorrow
When you look at each feature separately, Update 6 looks like one huge accumulation of improvements.
A mod browser.
A Hardcore mode.
Better Creative tools.
Improved performance.
More systems for servers.
But when you take a step back, a common direction begins to emerge.
The Mod Browser brings community creations closer to players.
The new Creative tools make it possible to build faster and on a much larger scale.
Trigger Volumes, points, physical collisions, and camera systems give creators new ways to turn a build into a genuine interactive experience.
And behind all of this, Hytale continues to strengthen the performance, networking, and server systems needed to run these experiences.
Hytale is therefore not just building its own content. It is gradually building the tools its community will use to create the rest.
And that is probably the real new feature of this Update 6.
The date is set for August 27.
We will obviously be there to see what players do with all these new toys.
